Shedd Aquarium


As a kid, I always wanted to be a marine biologist. As an adult, I managed to find my way back to marine biology in a wholly unexpected way. As the Social Media and Content Manager at the Shedd Aquarium, I do all of the following and then some:

  • Hired and manage our Content Strategist

  • Create a quarterly plan that outlines themes and important dates every month (I typically plan content by quarters)

  • Advise our CEO on content and create that content for her social channels when needed

  • Keep a robust content schedule that includes Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Stories and Instagram

  • Conceptualize and write content (allocating some to our strategist), planning for content that will achieve a high engagement rate and reach

  • Write paid ads that are run by our advertising partners

  • Plan content for and put together our emails

  • When needed, advise other departments on social media best practices

  • Work with multiple departments—including PR, animal care, development, and education—to support their corners of Shedd and initiative, to fact-check, to develop interesting content and more
